Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson - born Jacqueline Luesby to Chris Watson and Jacqueline Luesby, two British lawyers - was born August 8, 1989, in Paris. As a young girl, she relocated from London to Oxfordshire where she studied at the Dragon School. Emma was inspired to become an actor when she was six. For several years she was enrolled in the Oxford branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts part-time school. In the school, she was taught singing, dancing and acting. By the age of ten she had performed and taken as the main character in several Stagecoach productions as well as school plays. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2000) the 2001 film adaptation of J.K. Rowling's bestselling British book was released in 1999. Emma was initially discovered as a casting agent through her Oxford teacher of drama. David Heyman announced to Emma that, after auditioning for eight times Emma as well as Rupert Grint were chosen as Hermione and Harry Potter. Emma's first cinematic appearance was in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone in the year 2001. The film was also one of the top-rated films of 2001. Its opening weekday and weekend ticket sales were record-breaking. The critics were impressed by the movie and its performances. The Daily Telegraph, an influential British newspaper, called Emma's acting "amazing". Emma's performance was nominated and won five awards later for the film.
